Singularity University
The Singularity is a term
that refers a massive shift in the technological evolution of the
human race. During this shift our non-biological technology will be
integrated into our biological bodies, which will exponentially
extend our species's abilities well beyond our biological
limitations. This is a time when humanity will go through incredible
changes and will also be meet with great challenges. This may sound
like some far off future event but in actuality, the evidence shows
that this time period is just around the corner. Technological
progression is accelerating at an exponential rate, not at a linear
rate. This relates to all forms of technology. Most people however,
have a hard time with this because it is counterintuitive to think
of things in a exponential fashion. But, because technological
evolution is accelerating so dramatically, many of the types of
technologies and events that are often considered to be relevant
only to the distant future will actually become very relevant in the
coming decades.
Now as we speed closer in proximity to such an
astounding time in human history, many researchers believe that we
must begin preparing ourselves for some of the radical issues, and
changes that are theorized to take place. In this video Ray Kurzweil
speaks at TED about The Singularity University, who's purpose is to
study oncoming technological changes and help to guide the
accelerating process to benefit humanity.
